A lipid-lowering agent that reduces the amount of cholesterol found in the blood. The most potent statin that significantly reduces total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in hypercholesterolemia patients. (Chumpol Piamsomboon 1, 2002) Effectively increases high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol in patients with a wide variety of dyslipidaemias. (H S Malhotra, 2001) Lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. An appropriate first-line lipid-lowering therapy in numerous groups of patients at low to high risk of coronary heart disease.
