About the product
Description
Azithromycin 500 mg tablet, a macrolide antibiotic. Azithromycin binds the 50S ribosomal subunit and blocks bacterial protein synthesis. It acts on common respiratory bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella), atypical organisms (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Legionella) and Salmonella typhi. It concentrates in tissues and white cells and has a long half-life, which allows short courses of treatment. Tablets are taken with or without food.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loose stools, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, altered taste; rash and itching., Less common or serious: QT prolongation and irregular heartbeat (higher risk in heart disease, low potassium or magnesium, or with other QT-prolonging medicines), liver inflammation and cholestatic jaundice, severe skin reactions, Clostridioides difficile diarrhoea, temporary hearing changes, worsening of myasthenia gravis., Antacids containing aluminium or magnesium should be taken 2 hours apart., Not for use in allergy to azithromycin or other macrolides, previous liver problems with azithromycin, or with known QT prolongation.
Indication
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections, including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, acute otitis media, acute bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia (including atypical pneumonia) , Skin and soft-tissue infections , Uncomplicated typhoid fever , Urethritis and cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis , Trachoma
