About the product

By Vibcare Pharma · Updated 9 October 2026 · Based on product labels and standard drug references

Description

Acarvib M50 is a tablet from Vibcare Pharma that brings together two anti-diabetic medicines: Acarbose 50 mg and Metformin 500 mg. It belongs to the anti-diabetic class of medicines, combining an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor with a biguanide in one tablet. Each tablet carries these strengths as marked on the strip. Acarvib M50 is packed as 10x10 (Alu Alu) and comes from a division of Vibcare Pharma.

How it works

Inside the tablet, acarbose blocks the enzymes in the small intestine that break down complex carbohydrates and sugars into glucose. Because the breakdown is slowed, glucose is absorbed gradually and the blood sugar level rises less sharply after meals. Metformin, a biguanide, acts in a different way: it lowers the amount of glucose produced by the liver and helps the body respond to insulin. The two work along separate paths, so the tablet acts on both the after-meal rise and the overall blood sugar level through the day.

Used for

Acarvib M50 is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin in this tablet can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious condition whose symptoms include malaise, muscle pain, breathing difficulty, drowsiness and abdominal pain; these need urgent medical attention.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
