VIROVIB 800 DTACYCLOVIR 800mg. IP

Virovib 800 DT contains Acyclovir 800 mg and is used for the treatment of shingles, genital herpes and chickenpox. Main uses: acute treatment of herpes zoster (shingles); treatment of initial episodes of genital herpes; management of recurrent episodes of genital herpes; treatment of chickenpox (varicella).

Common side effects of Virovib 800 DT Tablet include nausea; vomiting; diarrhoea; headache; malaise (feeling unwell or tired). Get medical help at once if you notice kidney failure has been reported during acyclovir therapy; thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura / haemolytic uraemic syndrome (a serious blood disorder) has occurred in immunocompromised patients receiving acyclovir.

Acyclovir, the active ingredient of Virovib 800 DT, is a synthetic purine nucleoside analogue. It is taken up by cells infected with herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 and with varicella-zoster virus, where the virus's own enzyme converts it into a form that blocks the enzyme needed for viral DNA copying. This stops the virus from making new copies and slows the spread of infection, while ordinary cells are affected much less.
