About the product

By Vibcare Pharma · Updated 9 October 2026 · Based on product labels and standard drug references

Description

Azaprovib 50 is a tablet that contains azathioprine 50 mg. It belongs to the immunosuppressant class of medicines, used as a DMARD in rheumatoid arthritis. Packs are 10x10 (Blister), from Vibcare Pharma's Genvimax division.

How it works

Azathioprine is a purine antimetabolite. It slows the making of new genetic material in rapidly dividing cells, and immune cells are among those affected. By lowering immune system activity, the tablet helps reduce the chance that a transplanted kidney is rejected and reduces the signs and symptoms of active rheumatoid arthritis.

Used for

These tablets are used to help prevent rejection after a kidney transplant and to reduce the signs and symptoms of active rheumatoid arthritis. Long-term use carries a risk of lymphoma, other cancers and blood cell disorders, and azathioprine also increases the risk of serious infections due to lowered immunity.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
