About the product
Betahistine dihydrochloride 16 mg tablet. Betahistine is a structural analogue of histamine. It acts as a weak agonist at histamine H1 receptors and a strong antagonist at H3 receptors in the inner ear and brainstem. This increases blood flow in the inner ear (cochlea and vestibular system) and reduces the firing of vestibular nuclei, and is used to reduce the frequency and severity of vertigo attacks and to support recovery of balance after vestibular injury. Taken with or after food to reduce stomach upset; benefit is assessed over several weeks of regular use.
Nausea, indigestion, bloating, mild stomach pain; headache., Less common: skin rash, itching, hives and other allergic reactions, including rare swelling of the face or throat., Can rarely worsen symptoms in patients with asthma or peptic ulcer, who should be monitored., Antihistamines may reduce the effect of betahistine, and MAO inhibitors may increase its levels., Not for use in phaeochromocytoma or in patients allergic to betahistine; not recommended in children under 18 years, and in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if the doctor considers it necessary.
Ménière's disease (vertigo, tinnitus and hearing loss) , Vertigo of peripheral vestibular origin , Vestibular neuritis and recovery after vestibular injury, as part of vestibular rehabilitation
