Description
Cream combining betamethasone dipropionate equivalent to betamethasone 0.05% w/w, a potent corticosteroid, with gentamicin 0.1% w/w, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, and miconazole nitrate 2% w/w, an imidazole antifungal. Betamethasone reduces inflammation, redness and itching. Gentamicin kills Gram-negative and staphylococcal bacteria on the skin surface. Miconazole stops fungal growth by blocking ergosterol synthesis and acts on dermatophytes and Candida, with some antibacterial action on Gram-positive bacteria. The combination is meant for inflamed skin conditions with mixed fungal and bacterial infection diagnosed by the doctor. Applied thinly to the affected area for a short course. For short courses, usually not more than 1–2 weeks.
Side Effects
Burning, itching, irritation or dryness at the site., With prolonged or repeated use, the potent steroid can cause skin thinning, stretch marks, acne-like eruptions, loss of colour and increased hair growth; on tinea it can suppress symptoms while the fungus spreads (tinea incognito), which makes the infection more extensive and harder to treat., Use over large areas, on the face or under occlusion increases steroid absorption., Gentamicin can cause contact allergy and encourage resistant bacteria., Not for use in dermatophyte (tinea) infections, on the face or genitals for long periods, on viral skin infections, in rosacea or acne, in children for long periods, or in known allergy to any ingredient.
Indication
Inflammatory dermatoses with secondary fungal and bacterial infection where the doctor has made that diagnosis, for short-term use: infected eczema and dermatitis , Intertrigo , Candidal and mixed infections of skin folds
