Description

Sold as Cefvib CV (10 Pack), this medicine comes from Vibcare Pharma's Prima division. It is a tablet formulation in which each tablet provides Cefixime 200 mg together with Clavulanic Acid 125 mg. The combination belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics with a beta-lactamase inhibitor, and it is packed as 10x10 (Alu Alu).

How it works

The action of the two ingredients is complementary. Cefixime interferes with the bacterial cell wall, preventing bacteria from growing and spreading. Clavulanic acid, on its own, does not treat infection, but it defends the antibiotic by disabling the beta-lactamase enzymes that some resistant bacteria release, allowing cefixime to do its work.

Used for

Cefvib CV is used in the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as uncomplicated urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. Cefixime can cause serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (shock), and fatalities have been reported; the medicine must be stopped if an allergic reaction occurs. Clostridium difficile associated diarrhoea has been reported with nearly all antibiotics and needs to be evaluated by a doctor if diarrhoea develops. Use only on a doctor's prescription.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
