About the product
Description
Escitalopram 15 mg tablet. Escitalopram is the active S-enantiomer of citalopram and a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It blocks the serotonin transporter, increasing serotonin in brain synapses, which gradually improves mood, anxiety and panic symptoms over 2–4 weeks. It has little effect on other receptors, which limits sedation, weight gain and anticholinergic effects. It can be taken in the morning or evening, with or without food, and should not be stopped suddenly.
Side Effects
Nausea, headache, sweating, dry mouth, sleeplessness or drowsiness, tiredness, dizziness, diarrhoea or constipation, delayed ejaculation, reduced libido., Early in treatment anxiety may briefly increase., Less common: low sodium (especially in the elderly), bleeding tendency (more with NSAIDs, aspirin, anticoagulants), dose-related QT prolongation, mania in bipolar patients., Antidepressants carry a warning for suicidal thoughts in children, adolescents and young adults., Withdrawal symptoms (dizziness, irritability, sensory disturbance) if stopped abruptly., Serotonin syndrome with tramadol, triptans, linezolid and other serotonergic drugs., Not for use with MAO inhibitors or pimozide, in known QT prolongation or with QT-prolonging drugs, or in known allergy to citalopram or escitalopram.
