About the product

By Vibcare Pharma · Updated 9 October 2026 · Based on product labels and standard drug references

Description

Folilam 5 is presented by Vibcare Pharma as a tablet with Folic Acid 5 mg in it. It is placed in the class of vitamin B9 (folate) preparations. The pack is 10x10 (Blister). Folilam 5 comes from Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division.

How it works

Folic acid is the vitamin B9 that the body needs to make healthy red blood cells and to build DNA in new cells. Without enough of it, blood cells become large and do not work well, and anaemia follows. Taking the tablet replaces the missing vitamin and helps normal blood formation.

Used for

These tablets are used when folic acid is low and anaemia has developed because of it, including the megaloblastic anaemia that comes from folate deficiency, and to provide a maintenance supply of folic acid during pregnancy.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.

Side Effects

Common

  • Skin rash or itching
  • Allergic skin sensitisation (redness or itching of the skin)

Uses

  • Folate deficiency, when the body does not have enough folic acid
  • Folate deficiency anaemia
  • Megaloblastic (macrocytic) anaemia caused by folic acid deficiency
  • Maintenance supply of folic acid during pregnancy

Precautions

Do not use

  • Must not be used as the only treatment for pernicious anaemia or other anaemias caused by vitamin B12 deficiency, as folic acid can hide their signs while nerve problems continue
  • Must not be used if you have had an allergic reaction to folic acid

Ask a doctor first

  • Check with a doctor first if the cause of anaemia has not been investigated
  • Check with a doctor first if you take epilepsy medicines (such as phenytoin or phenobarbital) or methotrexate
