Description

Broxomed Total tablets combine Montelukast 10 mg, Levocitrizine 5 mg and Ambroxol 75 mg in a single tablet. It belongs to the Cough & Cold group of medicines and brings together a leukotriene receptor antagonist, an antihistamine and a mucolytic. Each pack is 10x10 (Alu Alu), and the product is from Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division.

How it works

In this tablet, Montelukast works by blocking leukotrienes, substances that cause allergic swelling, extra mucus and tightening in the nose and air passages. Levocitrizine blocks histamine and so eases sneezing, itching, watery eyes and a runny nose. Ambroxol acts on the mucus itself; it thins thick, sticky phlegm and helps it travel upwards from the air passages, so it is easier to cough out. Together the three ingredients act on allergy, nasal symptoms and mucus at the same time.

Used for

The medicine is used for relief of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms such as sneezing, runny or blocked nose, itching and watery eyes, along with thick mucus and productive cough. For allergic rhinitis, it should be used only when other treatments have not worked or are not tolerated. Serious mood and behaviour changes, including agitation, aggression, depression, disturbed sleep and suicidal thoughts or behaviour, have been reported with montelukast; tell the doctor at once if any such change appears.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
