Description

Levothyroxine sodium 88 mcg tablet. Levothyroxine sodium is synthetic thyroxine (T4), the same hormone produced by the thyroid gland. The body converts it to the active hormone T3, which restores normal metabolism, energy, heart rate and body temperature when the thyroid produces too little hormone. The dose is adjusted by the doctor according to TSH level, body weight, age and heart condition. Taken on an empty stomach, 30–60 minutes before breakfast; iron, calcium and antacids should be taken at least 4 hours apart.

Side Effects

Side effects are mainly seen when the dose is too high: palpitations, fast or irregular heartbeat, tremor, anxiety, sleeplessness, sweating, heat intolerance, weight loss, loose stools, headache; chest pain in patients with heart disease., Long-term over-replacement can reduce bone density., Temporary hair thinning may occur in the first months., Elderly patients and those with heart disease are started on a low dose., Not for use in untreated adrenal insufficiency, untreated thyrotoxicosis or acute myocardial infarction, and not for weight loss.

Primary hypothyroidism, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism after thyroid surgery or radioiodine treatment , Subclinical hypothyroidism where treatment is advised , Hypothyroidism in pregnancy , TSH suppression after thyroid cancer surgery, as directed by the specialist
