Hyderabad and the wider Telangana region have a large base of manufacturing, research and vaccine companies, a dedicated life sciences cluster and state policy support.
The Telangana government states that the state accounts for 40% of India's pharmaceutical production, one-third of global vaccine output, 40% of India's active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), more than 269 USFDA-approved facilities and over 2,000 life sciences companies. The same state portal cites the CBRE Atlas 2025, which places Telangana 7th among global life sciences hubs. These are state-government figures and relate to Telangana as a whole, not to Hyderabad city alone.
Invest India, the Government of India's investment promotion portal, adds that Telangana accounts for 40% of India's drug production and 50% of the country's bulk drug (API) exports. It also describes Genome Valley as India's largest life sciences cluster.
Genome Valley is described by the Telangana government as India's first organised life sciences research and development and manufacturing cluster. It hosts more than 250 companies from 18 countries, about 2.5 million square feet of laboratory space, and roughly 20,000 scientific professionals.
The cluster was commissioned in 1999 as the S.P. Biotech Park, and covers about 2,000 acres. Bharat Biotech, one of the companies listed on this page, was founded in Genome Valley.
The Hyderabad Pharma City project was announced on 24 March 2018 as a 19,000-acre pharmaceutical cluster. Reports indicate it was scrapped in February 2024 and replaced by a plan for "Pharma Villages".
In November 2024, memoranda of understanding worth ₹5,260 crore were signed for the Mucherla site. The Telangana Life Sciences Policy 2026-30, unveiled in January 2026, targets USD 25 billion in investment and 5 lakh jobs by 2030, and speaks of a "Green Pharma City" and 10 Pharma Villages. No source reviewed for this page shows that commercial production has started at the Pharma City site, so it should be read as a project in progress, not an operating park.

Two of the companies on this page, Bharat Biotech and Biological E, are vaccine makers, and the state government claims that Telangana accounts for one-third of global vaccine output.
Both companies are privately held, so their figures come from credit-rating documents rather than stock-exchange filings.
Hyderabad has pharmaceutical, vaccine, API and contract research employers in one metropolitan area, from the large listed companies on this page to private manufacturers.
The Telangana government counts more than 2,000 life sciences companies in the state and over 269 USFDA-approved facilities. Genome Valley alone is claimed to host 250+ companies from 18 countries, about 2.5 million square feet of laboratory space and around 20,000 scientific professionals.

One route into the pharmaceutical trade that does not require building a factory is the PCD (propaganda cum distribution) pharma franchise, in which a pharma company appoints a partner to market and distribute its products in a defined area.
Under this model, the partner typically needs a wholesale drug licence and GST registration before starting. Franchise companies appoint partners area by area, and the scope, product list and commercial terms are set out in an agreement with the company.
Vibcare Pharma is based in Panchkula, Haryana — its corporate office is at Plot No 4, HSIIDC IT Park, Sector 22, Panchkula 134109 — not in Hyderabad. The company was incorporated in 2014 and began commercial operations in 2015. It appoints PCD franchise partners district by district across India, including in Telangana, with one partner per district and monopoly rights confirmed in writing. It has products across 11 divisions and more than 5,000 partners. Its manufacturing company, Vibcare Healthcare, owns a WHO-GMP plant at Village Dabkori, Panchkula (1 lakh sq ft on five acres; WHO-GMP site certificate of 24 October 2024 from the State Drugs Controller, FDA Haryana).
By consolidated revenue, Aurobindo Pharma is the largest pharmaceutical company headquartered in Hyderabad, with income of ₹33,653 crore in FY26. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories is a very close second at ₹33,593 crore in FY26, and the two companies are within 0.2% of each other.
No official count of pharmaceutical companies exists for Hyderabad city. What can be sourced is that the Telangana government claims more than 2,000 life sciences companies in the state and over 269 USFDA-approved facilities, while Genome Valley alone is said to host 250+ companies from 18 countries. Any figure given for Hyderabad city should therefore be treated as an estimate.

It was commissioned in 1999 as the S.P. Biotech Park and covers about 2,000 acres.
