Description

How it works

Used for
It is used for infections caused by susceptible bacteria, among them pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, chronic bronchitis flare-ups, skin and skin structure infections, urinary tract infections, acute pyelonephritis and chronic bacterial prostatitis. Levofloxacin should be used only for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be bacterial. Tendon, nerve and brain-related reactions that may be disabling have been reported; stop the medicine and contact a doctor at once if tendon pain, numbness or mood changes occur.

Do not use
- Must not be used by anyone with a known allergy to levofloxacin or to other quinolone antibacterials.
- Must not be used in patients with a known prolongation of the QT interval or with low potassium levels (hypokalaemia), and not with other medicines that prolong the QT interval.

- Must be avoided in patients with a history of tendon disorders, tendinitis or tendon rupture.
- Must be avoided in patients with myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness), as it can worsen the weakness.
