Description
Bilastine 40 mg tablet. Bilastine is a second-generation H1 antihistamine that binds selectively to peripheral histamine H1 receptors. It blocks the action of histamine released from mast cells, which relieves sneezing, runny nose, nasal and eye itching and watering in allergic rhinitis, and itching and hives (wheals) in urticaria. It does not cross into the brain to a meaningful degree, so sedation and effects on driving are uncommon at the standard dose, and it is not broken down by liver enzymes. Taken on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after food or fruit juice, because food and juice reduce its absorption.
Side Effects
Headache, drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness; less often abdominal pain, nausea, dry mouth, indigestion and increased appetite., Rare: palpitations, fast heartbeat, changes on the ECG (QT prolongation), raised liver enzymes, and allergic reactions with rash or swelling., Grapefruit and other fruit juices, ketoconazole, erythromycin, ciclosporin and diltiazem can change blood levels of bilastine., Not for use in children under 12 years (tablet strength), in patients allergic to bilastine, and in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice; caution in patients with heart rhythm disorders.

Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis , Chronic spontaneous urticaria and other urticaria , Allergic itching of the skin
