Description

Jemcef CV tablets from Vibcare Pharma's Auspin division are an oral antibiotic in tablet form. Each tablet carries Cefixime 200 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg. It is classed as a cephalosporin antibiotic with a beta-lactamase inhibitor, and the product is packed as 10x1x6 (Alu Alu).

How it works

Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that acts by preventing bacteria from building their cell walls, which stops them from surviving and multiplying. Clavulanic acid is added to block the beta-lactamase enzymes that certain bacteria produce to inactivate antibiotics, so that cefixime can act against those bacteria as well.

Used for

These tablets are used for bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including uncomplicated urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis and acute flare-ups of chronic bronchitis. Serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (shock) and fatalities have been reported with cefixime, so the medicine must be stopped if an allergic reaction occurs. Diarrhoea due to Clostridium difficile has been reported with almost all antibiotics and must be evaluated by a doctor if it occurs. Use only on a doctor's prescription.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
