About the product

By Vibcare Pharma · Updated 9 October 2026 · Based on product labels and standard drug references

Description

Metprovib PR 25 is a tablet from Vibcare Pharma. Each tablet contains metoprolol 25 mg. It belongs to the class of medicines known as beta-adrenergic blockers (cardioselective beta-blockers). The product is packed as 10x10 (Alu Strip) and is available from Vibcare Pharma's C.U.R.E. division.

How it works

The ingredient metoprolol is a beta-1 selective (cardioselective) beta-blocker. It works by blocking beta-1 receptors in the heart, which slows the sinus rate and decreases conduction through the AV node. As a result, the heart beats more slowly and with less force, the heart's oxygen requirement falls, and blood pressure comes down. Metoprolol does not have intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, and at usual plasma concentrations its beta-1 selectivity is preferred over its effect on beta-2 receptors in the airways and blood vessels.

Used for

These tablets are used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and in the treatment of angina pectoris. After a myocardial infarction, metoprolol may be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality in haemodynamically stable patients when given alongside intravenous metoprolol therapy. Beta-blockers should be avoided in asthma or other bronchospastic disease.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.

Uses

  • Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults, to lower blood pressure
  • Treatment of angina pectoris (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart)
  • After myocardial infarction (heart attack), to reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality when used along with intravenous metoprolol therapy in haemodynamically stable patients
  • Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack

Precautions

Do not use

  • Must not be used in severe bradycardia, second- or third-degree heart block, or sick sinus syndrome unless a permanent pacemaker is in place
  • Must not be used in cardiogenic shock or decompensated (severe, unstable) heart failure
  • Must not be used if systolic blood pressure is below 100
  • Must not be used if you are allergic to metoprolol or any other ingredient of the tablet
  • Must not be stopped abruptly; the dose should be reduced gradually under medical supervision

Ask a doctor first

  • Beta-blockers should be avoided if you have asthma or other bronchospastic disease
  • Check with a doctor first if you have diabetes; metoprolol may mask the warning signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). Check with a doctor first if you have a phaeochromocytoma (an adrenal gland tumour), where an alpha-blocker should be given before metoprolol is started. Check with a doctor first if you have thyroid disease, peripheral vascular disease, or if surgery is planned
