Description

From Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division comes Lumilam, an antimalarial tablet with Artemether 80 mg and Lumefantrine 480 mg per tablet. The two ingredients are present in the ratio of 1:6, and the product is packed as 10x6 (Blister).

How it works

The two ingredients work in turn against the malaria parasite. Artemether brings down the number of parasites in the blood, while lumefantrine clears the parasites that remain over a longer period and helps stop the infection from returning again. Both are antimalarial medicines.

Used for

Lumilam tablets are used for acute, uncomplicated malaria infections caused by Plasmodium falciparum. John's wort. Use must be avoided in patients with known QT prolongation, low potassium or magnesium levels, or those taking other QT-prolonging medicines.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.

Do not use

  • Must not be used if you are allergic to artemether, lumefantrine or any ingredient of the tablet
  • Must not be used for severe or complicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria
  • Must not be used to prevent malaria
  • Must not be used with strong CYP3A4 inducers such as rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin or St. John's wort; halofantrine and these tablets should not be administered within one month of each other
  • Must not be used in patients with known QT prolongation (including congenital long QT syndrome), low potassium (hypokalemia) or low magnesium (hypomagnesemia) levels, or in those taking other medicines that prolong the QT interval
