Description

Lumivib is an antimalarial tablet from Vibcare Pharma's Prima division. Each tablet contains Artemether 80 mg and Lumefantrine 480 mg. The product is packed as 10x6 (Blister).

How it works

Artemether acts on the malaria parasite early and brings down the number of parasites in the blood. Lumefantrine then works over a longer period to clear the parasites that are left and to help stop the infection from coming back. Together they form a fixed-dose antimalarial combination in the ratio of 1:6.

Used for

These tablets are used for the treatment of acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. John's wort. Use must be avoided in patients with known QT prolongation, low potassium or magnesium levels, or those taking other QT-prolonging medicines.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.

Precautions

Do not use

  • Must not be used if you are allergic to artemether, lumefantrine or any ingredient of the tablet
  • Must not be used for severe or complicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria
  • Must not be used to prevent malaria
  • Must not be used with strong CYP3A4 inducers such as rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin or St. John's wort; halofantrine and these tablets should not be administered within one month of each other
  • Must not be used in patients with known QT prolongation (including congenital long QT syndrome), low potassium (hypokalemia) or low magnesium (hypomagnesemia) levels, or in those taking other medicines that prolong the QT interval
