A broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Doxycycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, helping stop the growth and spread of susceptible microorganisms. It offers excellent oral absorption, good tissue penetration, and a long half-life for convenient dosing. (Holmes & Charles, 2009) Doxycycline is effective against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, atypical pathogens, rickettsiae, and chlamydiae. It is widely used in respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections, Lyme disease, acne, and malaria prophylaxis. (Degen et al., 1987) In addition to its antibacterial activity, doxycycline also possesses anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial in conditions such as acne vulgaris, rosacea, and periodontal disease.
