Sacholam L Sachet is used for acute diarrhoea alongside oral rehydration therapy. Main uses: adjunctive management of acute diarrhoea along with oral rehydration; helps reduce the number of loose stools in acute diarrhoea; helps limit loss of water and electrolytes from the gut; supports a healthy balance of gut flora during a diarrhoeal episode; provides zinc support during diarrhoeal illness.

Common side effects of Sacholam L Sachet include nausea; abdominal pain; vomiting; constipation; headache; dizziness. Get medical help at once if you notice swelling of the face, lips or tongue with difficulty breathing (allergic reaction); severe skin rash; blood infection caused by the yeast in very ill or immunocompromised patients (rare).

The three parts of the sachet work together in different ways. Racecadotril decreases the excess release of water and salts into the intestine, which helps reduce loose stools without affecting normal bowel movement. Saccharomyces Boulardii is a probiotic yeast that supports the balance of organisms in the gut and helps the intestinal lining. Zinc Lactate gives zinc support, which is needed for the gut lining and normal immune function.

Must not be used by anyone allergic to Racecadotril, Saccharomyces Boulardii, Zinc Lactate or any other ingredient of the sachet. Must not be used in patients who have a central venous catheter, as the yeast can enter the bloodstream from it. Check with a doctor first before using this along with an ACE inhibitor, as the combination can increase the risk of swelling of the face, lips or tongue (angioedema). Check with a doctor first in pregnancy or breastfeeding, in liver or kidney disease, if the immune system is weak or the patient is seriously ill or hospitalised, or if there is blood in the stool or high fever.
