Description

Candilam 200 is a capsule made by Vibcare Pharma for fungal infections. Every capsule holds Itraconazole 200 mg, which belongs to the azole class of anti-fungal drugs. The product is packed as 10x4 (Blister) and is supplied under Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division.

How it works

The single ingredient Itraconazole acts by stopping an enzyme (lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase) that fungi need to make ergosterol. Ergosterol is what keeps the fungal cell membrane firm and working. When its production is blocked, the membrane loses strength, fungal growth stops and the infection is controlled over the course of treatment.

Used for

Candilam 200 is prescribed for fungal infections including blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, aspergillosis, nail fungus and fungal infections of the skin.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.

Precautions

Do not use

  • Must not be used by anyone with a known allergy to itraconazole
  • Must not be taken with certain other medicines that are broken down by the same liver enzyme system (for example some heart, cholesterol, sedative and allergy medicines) because itraconazole raises their levels
  • Must not be used for fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) in patients with congestive heart failure or any signs of ventricular dysfunction; itraconazole can cause or worsen heart failure, so tell your doctor about any heart condition, history of heart failure or heart risk factors before treatment
  • Must not be used for fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) during pregnancy; women of childbearing age must use effective contraception during treatment and for two months after treatment ends, and pregnancy must be avoided

Ask a doctor first
