Udolam 300 tablets provide Ursodeoxycholic Acid 300 mg, used for cholesterol gallstones and cholestatic liver disorders. Main uses: dissolution of radiolucent (non-calcified) cholesterol gallstones in a functioning gallbladder; early-stage primary biliary cholangitis (chronic cholestatic liver disease); cholestatic liver disorders in which bile flow is reduced; support of liver function in hepatobiliary conditions as advised by a doctor.

Common side effects of Udolam 300 Tablet include diarrhoea or soft stools; nausea or vomiting; abdominal discomfort or fullness; pruritus (itching); pain in the right upper abdomen; rise in liver enzymes (transaminases) in some patients. Get medical help at once if you notice severe allergic reaction with rash, swelling of face or throat or difficulty breathing; calcification of gallstones with biliary colic; worsening of pruritus in patients with advanced liver disease.

Each tablet delivers a bile acid that lowers cholesterol synthesis in the liver and reduces cholesterol in the bile pool. This change in bile composition allows radiolucent cholesterol gallstones to dissolve gradually and helps bile to drain more normally through the biliary passages. Ursodeoxycholic acid further protects liver cells from the injury caused by toxic bile acids that accumulate when bile flow is impaired, and it brings a mild stabilising effect on the immune processes in the liver.

Must not be used if gallstones are calcified (radiopaque) or the gallbladder is not functioning. Must not be used in complete biliary obstruction or in acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts. Must not be used in patients with biliary-enteric fistula. Must not be used if allergic to ursodeoxycholic acid or other bile acids. Check with a doctor first if pregnant, breastfeeding, or if there is advanced liver disease.
