Read our full guide: Atorvastatin: uses, dose, side effects and brands
Sold from Vibcare Pharma's C.U.R.E division, Atovib 20 is a tablet that contains Atorvastatin 20 mg. The medicine belongs to the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) class. It comes packed as 10x15 (Alu Alu).
In simple terms, this tablet turns down cholesterol production in the liver. It does that by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, an early step in cholesterol making. The liver then takes up more LDL from the blood to make up the shortfall, which lowers LDL cholesterol levels and also reduces the number of LDL particles circulating.
Atovib 20 is used as an addition to diet to lower LDL cholesterol in adults with primary hyperlipidemia and in adults and children aged 10 years and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, and it is also used in primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and hypertriglyceridemia. The tablets further help reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and angina in people with risk factors for heart disease. They must be stopped if pregnancy is recognised.
Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
