Read our full guide: Atorvastatin: uses, dose, side effects and brands
Lamato 20 is the tablet presentation of Atorvastatin 20 mg from Vibcare Pharma. It is a member of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) class of medicines. The pack is packed as 10x15 (Alu Alu), and the brand is placed in Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division.
Cholesterol is made in the liver through a chain of steps, and the first key step is handled by an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. Atorvastatin blocks this enzyme. Because the liver then makes less cholesterol, it also removes more LDL cholesterol from the circulation, so blood cholesterol and the number of LDL particles both fall.
Along with diet, Lamato 20 is used to reduce LDL cholesterol in adults with primary hyperlipidemia, in adults and children aged 10 years and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, and in primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and hypertriglyceridemia. It is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, revascularization procedures and angina. The tablets must be discontinued if pregnancy is recognised.
Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
