About the product

By Vibcare Pharma · Updated 9 October 2026 · Based on product labels and standard drug references

Description

Metega SR 500 is a sustained-release tablet containing Metformin 500 mg. It belongs to the biguanide class of antidiabetic medicines, and it is packed as 10x15 (Blister). This product comes from Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division.

How it works

Metformin acts mainly on the liver, where it reduces the amount of glucose released into the blood. It also helps the body respond to its own insulin. Together these actions help blood sugar levels stay closer to normal, while the sustained-release form releases the medicine slowly.

Used for

Metformin can lead to lactic acidosis, a rare but serious condition; the risk is higher with kidney problems, heavy alcohol use, liver disease, dehydration, contrast dye studies or surgery. Warning signs are unusual muscle pain, breathing difficulty, sleepiness, stomach pain and feeling cold, and these need urgent medical attention.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
