Description

Each Candilam 100 (blister) capsule holds itraconazole 100 mg, an azole antifungal agent. It is supplied as 10x4 (Blister) from Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division.

How it works

The active ingredient itraconazole works by preventing fungi from producing ergosterol, which keeps their cell membranes firm. When ergosterol is missing the membrane breaks down, the fungal cells cannot survive and the infection is brought under control. One capsule gives 100 mg of the ingredient.

Used for

Candilam 100 (blister) is used for fungal infections such as blastomycosis, histoplasmosis and aspergillosis, and for skin and nail infections caused by dermatophytes or yeasts. The medicine can cause or worsen heart failure and can lead to serious liver injury; a doctor must be contacted at once if swelling, breathlessness, tiredness, yellowing of the skin or dark urine appear.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
