Belongs to the group of medicines called 5-Alpha reductase inhibitors for the treatment of men with androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss). Prevents further hair loss by continuing to grow enough hair to preserve scalp coverage. (Whiting, 2001) Inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, a key mediator of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). (Makoto Kawashima, 2004) A well tolerated agent that slows hair loss and improves hair growth in men with male pattern hair loss. (Makoto Kawashima, 2004) Shows significant increase in hair density over a specified area of the scalp, and a significant improvement in appearance in men with androgenetic alopecia. (H Wolff, 1999) Promotes scalp hair growth and prevents further hair loss in men with male pattern hair loss. (K J McClellan, 1999) A valuable approach with good tolerability profile for the management of male pattern hair loss.
