Read our full guide: Montelukast and levocetirizine: uses, dose, side effects and brands
An oral syrup from Vibcare Pharma, Montijem LC Syrup carries Levocetirizine 2.5 mg and Montelukast 4 mg in the anti-allergic and anti-histamine class of medicines. Its pack is 60ml, and it is supplied from Vibcare Pharma's Auspin division.
In this combination, Levocetirizine blocks histamine at H1 receptors and so brings down sneezing, a runny nose, itching and watery eyes. Montelukast, on its part, blocks cysteinyl leukotrienes, the chemicals that swell and tighten the airways and nasal passages. Each ingredient therefore works on a separate step of the allergic response.
The syrup is meant for the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, for itching and hives in chronic idiopathic urticaria, and for long-term asthma management in young children. Serious neuropsychiatric events, including agitation, aggression, depression, sleep disturbances and suicidal thoughts or behaviour, have been reported with montelukast; inform the doctor if such changes appear.
Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.
