Viglim M3 Forte tablets combine glimepiride and metformin to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes alongside diet and exercise. Main uses: used as an addition to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus; helps lower raised blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone are not enough.

Common side effects of Viglim M3 Forte Tablet include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia); headache; nausea; dizziness; weakness or tiredness; diarrhoea. Get medical help at once if you notice severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which may be life-threatening; lactic acidosis with metformin (rare but potentially fatal), with symptoms such as muscle pain, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness and abdominal pain; potential increased risk of cardiovascular mortality with sulfonylureas such as glimepiride; patients should be informed of the risks, benefits and treatment alternatives.

Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, prompts the pancreas to release more insulin, which carries glucose from the blood into the cells. Metformin, a biguanide, reduces the glucose made by the liver and helps the body use its own insulin properly.

Must not be used for type 1 diabetes mellitus. Must not be used for diabetic ketoacidosis or other metabolic acidosis. Must not be used in severe renal impairment (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m2). Must not be used by anyone with a history of hypersensitivity to glimepiride, metformin or sulfonamide derivatives. Check with a doctor first if kidney or liver function is reduced, if you are elderly, drink alcohol in excess, have G6PD deficiency (risk of hemolytic anemia), or are going for contrast imaging or surgery.
