Description

Available as Revmox CV 625, this antibacterial tablet carries Amoxycillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg. It belongs to the class of penicillin antibiotics combined with a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Revmox CV 625 is packed as 10x1x10 (Alu Strip) and comes from Vibcare Pharma's Evermed division.

How it works

Amoxycillin in the tablet works against bacteria by stopping them from building a cell wall. Clavulanic acid plays the supporting part: it blocks the beta-lactamase enzyme that certain bacteria release, which would otherwise break down the penicillin. Together the two components target infections caused by bacteria that make this enzyme.

Used for

The tablet is used for lower respiratory tract infections, acute bacterial otitis media, sinusitis, skin and skin structure infections and urinary tract infections that are caused by susceptible bacteria.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.

Uses

  • Lower respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible beta-lactamase-producing bacteria
  • Acute bacterial otitis media caused by susceptible beta-lactamase-producing bacteria
  • Sinusitis caused by susceptible beta-lactamase-producing bacteria
  • Skin and skin structure infections caused by susceptible beta-lactamase-producing bacteria
  • Urinary tract infections caused by susceptible beta-lactamase-producing bacteria
  • Used only when laboratory tests show the bacteria produce beta-lactamase; it is not the choice when bacteria respond to amoxycillin alone

Precautions

Do not use

  • Must not be used in patients with a history of a serious allergic reaction to amoxycillin, clavulanic acid or other beta-lactam antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins
  • Must not be used in patients with a previous history of cholestatic jaundice or liver dysfunction caused by this combination
  • Must not be used in patients with mononucleosis, as a skin rash usually develops

Ask a doctor first

  • Check with a doctor first if you have liver or kidney problems, are pregnant or are breastfeeding
  • Check with a doctor first if you develop rash, yellowing of the skin, or severe or persistent diarrhoea during treatment
