About the product

By Vibcare Pharma · Updated 9 October 2026 · Based on product labels and standard drug references

Description

Viglim M4 is a tablet that carries Glimepiride 4 mg and Metformin 500 mg as its two active ingredients. It belongs to the class of sulfonylurea and biguanide antidiabetic medicines and is packed as 10x10 (Blister) from Vibcare Pharma's Cure division.

How it works

Each tablet works on blood sugar in two ways. Glimepiride, the sulfonylurea, acts on the beta cells of the pancreas and encourages the release of more insulin into the bloodstream. Metformin, the biguanide, reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver and helps the body respond to the insulin it already has.

Used for

Viglim M4 is used as an addition to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Two serious risks apply: glimepiride can cause severe hypoglycemia, and metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis, with muscle pain, breathing difficulty, sleepiness and abdominal pain as warning signs.

Use only on a doctor's prescription, at the dose and for the duration advised.

Uses

  • Used as one part of the diabetes care plan set by the treating doctor

  • Must not be used for type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Must not be used by patients with severe kidney impairment or any metabolic acidosis
  • Must not be used by patients allergic to glimepiride, metformin or sulfonamide derivatives

  • Check with a doctor first if you have reduced kidney or liver function, are 65 years or older, or drink alcohol heavily (these raise the risk of lactic acidosis with metformin)
