Telmivib 80 tablets contain Telmisartan 80 mg for high blood pressure and for cardiovascular risk reduction in patients unable to take ACE inhibitors. Main uses: treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) to lower blood pressure; lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, mainly strokes and heart attacks; cardiovascular risk reduction in patients unable to take ACE inhibitors.

Common side effects of Telmivib 80 Tablet include back pain; sinusitis; diarrhoea; upper respiratory tract infection symptoms; dizziness; fatigue. Get medical help at once if you notice very low blood pressure (symptomatic hypotension), especially in volume- or salt-depleted patients; kidney problems, including renal impairment; swelling of the face, lips or tongue (angioedema).

Telmisartan works by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in blood vessels and the adrenal gland. Angiotensin II normally tightens blood vessels and encourages the body to hold salt and water. By blocking its action, Telmisartan allows the blood vessels to relax and helps blood pressure to come down.

Must not be used if the patient is allergic to telmisartan or any ingredient of the tablet. Must not be used with aliskiren in patients with diabetes. Must not be used during pregnancy; telmisartan must be stopped as soon as pregnancy is detected as it can injure the developing baby. Concomitant use of an ACE inhibitor with an ARB such as telmisartan should be avoided. Check with a doctor first if the patient has liver or kidney impairment, is taking diuretics or potassium supplements, or has volume or salt depletion.
