Statinor 10 tablets contain Atorvastatin 10 mg, a statin used to lower raised cholesterol and reduce heart risk. Main uses: as an add-on to diet to lower raised LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) in adults with primary hyperlipidaemia; as an add-on to diet to lower LDL cholesterol in adults and children aged 10 years and above with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia; to lower LDL cholesterol in adults and children aged 10 years and above with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, along with other LDL-lowering treatment; as an add-on to diet for adults with primary dysbetalipoproteinaemia; as an add-on to diet for adults with hypertriglyceridaemia.

Common side effects of Statinor 10 Tablet include nasopharyngitis (cold-like symptoms of the nose and throat); joint pain (arthralgia); diarrhoea; pain in the arms or legs; urinary tract infection; muscle pain or weakness (myalgia). Get medical help at once if you notice muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) with risk of kidney problems; liver problems, with raised liver enzymes and rare reports of liver failure; immune-mediated necrotising myopathy (rare autoimmune muscle disease).

Atorvastatin works by blocking HMG-CoA reductase, the liver enzyme that makes cholesterol. With this step slowed down, the liver produces less cholesterol and also pulls more LDL (bad cholesterol) out of the blood, which helps to bring LDL levels down along with diet.
